About

Why this Blog?

We love a good mystery or an epic fantasy novel, regardless of the sexuality of the main characters, but lately we've been actively seeking out those that have lesbian protagonists. We have found that many of these books have no indication on them anywhere that they feature queer leading ladies, likely because in many of them, the sexuality of the main character is not the central issue. Don’t get us wrong, a good coming out story is a beautiful thing, but more often, we want to read books where the character’s sexuality isn't a constant point of contention, where romance with a woman draws no more attention than romance with a man would. That is the impetus behind the creation of this blog. All the books contained here are good genre reads (you’ll notice we like fantasy and mysteries most of all, but are open for exploration) that might not, at a casual glance, appear to have any queer characters. Sometimes we'll review books that advertise queerness on the dust just jacket or those that have gained national attention, but many of the books you will find here probably aren't on standard "top 100" lists.

About Us

The Lesbrarian is a librarian (surprise!) and is an avid reader of genre fiction. She enjoys sleuthing for new titles at her local library, as well as the non-literary pursuits of cooking and outdoor adventuring.

The Bookwhisperer is a voracious reader of genre fiction (surprise, surprise!) and has adopted her name because of her occasional habit of verbally admonishing or congratulating characters in her book. She works as a teacher's aide for special ed high school students and in her free time enjoys practicing Aikido.

Labels

We designed the following "extremely rigorous" method for labeling the books reviewed on this blog:
  • Recommended: we love this book!
  • Decent: it was pretty good, though not our favorite.
  • Meh: it was okay. Generally inoffensive, though not necessarily recommended. May suffer from inelegant writing and/or plot holes.
  • Read at your Own Risk: possibly poisonous depictions of queer life and love or really dreadful prose. Beware!
